Dear Grace,
Mt 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
What you place your gaze upon is what produces your vision. As we get ready for Palm Sunday our minds will go back to the time that Jesus rode a young donkey into Jerusalem. The people were ready to crown Him but He was ready for the cross. Six months earlier Jesus said these words to Peter, thou savourest not the things of God. In the context Jesus was sharing with the disciples the necessity of the cross.
The word savourest means to exercise the mind, to entertain or have a sentiment or an affectionate opinion toward. When we allow our selves to gaze upon the worldly things (temporal things) we will not have a proper vision of heavenly things (eternal things). Jesus rebuked Peter and justly so. We also need to keep our eyes on the Lord and we need to place our affections on things above.
What a blessing to have Tim & Luta Smith here Wed. night. Tim has not weakened or wavered from his heavenly vision. Ac 26:19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: Is your vision getting bad then it is probably your gaze that needs to be fixed.
